The Baird analyst team has adjusted ratings for several dining enterprises.
The Baird analyst team has adjusted ratings for several restaurant companies based on core selection criteria including unit economic benefits, growth potential, store discipline, and sustainable same-store sales, naming CAVA Group (CAVA.US), Brinker International, Inc. (EAT.US), Starbucks Corporation (SBUX.US), and Dutch Bros (BROS.US) as top recommendations with high conviction. Baird has downgraded Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG.US) from Outperform to Neutral, with a target price reduced to $40. Led by Chris OCull, the Baird analyst team noted that Chipotle Mexican Grill may need to invest more capital to achieve lower growth. The team believes that for the company to reach low single-digit same-store sales growth (historically mid-single-digit growth), larger-scale reinvestment will be required, which will slow the pace of margin recovery. We maintain a positive outlook on the companys business, but do not believe the stock deserves a growth stock valuation premium, the OCull team wrote in their research report. Baird has also downgraded Black Rock Coffee Bar (BRCB.US) from "Outperform" to "Neutral," with a target price decreased to $10. Baird believes Black Rock Coffee Bar has attractive unit economics and solid fundamentals; however, the increasingly competitive environment raises concerns. 7 Brew and Dutch Bros are much larger and aggressively expanding, and our research indicates that first-mover advantage is critical. Additionally, improvements at Starbucks Corporation may also limit the growth opportunities for its challengers, the analysts wrote. Baird has upgraded Darden Restaurants, Inc. (DRI.US) from Neutral to Outperform, raising the target price to $250. The firm currently views Darden Restaurants, Inc. as a core casual dining holding company with reliable revenue drivers, strong execution capabilities, and a sustainable growth mechanism. We are positive on Darden Restaurants, Inc.'s internal fundamentals (solid execution capabilities) and diversified brand portfolio, and the company continues to deliver total returns of 10%-15% to shareholders, the OCull team added.
