On the news front, on August 20, BANK OF E ASIA released its interim results for the year 2026, reporting interest income of HKD 15.506 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 8.23%; profit attributable to shareholders of HKD 2.416 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.37%; and basic earnings per share of HKD 0.91. It proposed to distribute an interim dividend of HKD 0.46 per share. The announcement stated that overall income in the first six months of 2026 demonstrated resilience. Operating profit before provisions increased by HKD 901 million, or 16.5%, to HKD 6.348 billion. Net interest income increased by HKD 353 million, or 4.8%, to HKD 7.697 billion. The group's net interest margin narrowed by 3 basis points year-on-year, from 1.88% to 1.85%. Non-interest income rose by 19.0%, reaching HKD 3.470 billion. Net service fee and commission income increased by 16.1% year-on-year, to HKD 1.921 billion, mainly due to increases in service fees from third-party policy sales, investment activities, and loan-related services. The net profit from trading, financial instrument revaluation, and related hedges also rose by HKD 148 million, or 13.2%, benefiting from active client trading, which drove an increase in trading income.
