Is NVIDIA Corporation facing a new challenger? Cerebras (CBRS.US) has released the new CS-4 computer, claiming it can generate AI results several times faster, overwhelmingly surpassing NVIDIA Corporation.
Cerebras Systems Inc. has launched a new computer named CS-4, which will be more widely available later in the third quarter.
Cerebras Systems (CBRS.US) has launched a new high-speed computer powered by the companys chips, claiming that this device will provide a greater advantage over NVIDIA Corporation's products.
At an event held in San Francisco on Tuesday, the company stated that the machine, named CS-4, is currently undergoing sample testing by a small number of customers and will be widely available later in the third quarter. The computer's speed will be multiple times faster than its predecessor, and Cerebras has previously asserted that its previous generation product outperforms systems equipped with NVIDIA Corporation's dominant processors.
This product upgrade is a key move for the company as it challenges NVIDIA Corporation in the AI data center hardware market. Earlier this year, Cerebras went public with an IPO, but its scale still represents only a fraction of its competitors. However, it aims to achieve revenue growth of twofold (up to three times) by next year.
Since going public in May, the company's stock price has risen by 19%.
Cerebras has two core business segments: selling computers equipped with its chips and providing data center computing power services based on its technology. Both business units share the common goal of capitalizing on the explosive spending in the artificial intelligence infrastructure sector.
At the event, CEO Andrew Feldman and other executives showcased demonstrations of the new hardware, stating that it offers AI-generated results at speeds several times faster than NVIDIA Corporation's alternatives.
Cerebras is promoting ultra-fast results generation as its core differentiating advantage. The company claims that by storing all the values supporting its AI models on its massive chip eliminating the need to access memory chips through interconnects the entire processing operation becomes significantly faster.
The new computer is designed to accommodate updated next-generation chips that will be released next year and features an improved cooling system. This allows it to house three existing Cerebras processors and operate at higher speeds.
Feldman noted during the event that the company has learned from previous versions and introduced a modular design that can be easily upgraded or configured to accommodate a wider range of peripheral systems.
He mentioned that the all-new computer design will help Cerebras keep pace with the surging market demand. On one hand, it does not require the memory chips that are currently in short supply; on the other hand, it is built using more readily available manufacturing process technologies. He stated that this will enable the company, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, to deploy these systems more rapidly.
