Hong Kong Gold Exchange Trading System Limited (HKGXTS) is officially established, and the system is expected to undergo trial operations in the first quarter of next year.
The new system will focus on the Hong Kong gold trading system and the construction of related fintech infrastructure.
On August 18, the Hong Kong Gold Trading System Limited (HKGXTS) officially announced its establishment, jointly formed by the Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) and Gold Chain Technology Limited (TGX). The new system will focus on the construction of the Hong Kong gold trading system and related fintech infrastructure, partnering with technical collaborators such as Hundsun Technologies Inc. and Alibaba Cloud to create a secure, stable, efficient, and internationally capable technology platform for gold trading and clearing.
In terms of technical collaboration, TGX will oversee the overall design and project governance, Hundsun Technologies Inc. will support the delivery of the core system, while Alibaba Cloud will provide cloud technology and future AI capabilities. Hundsun Technologies Inc. will leverage its technological expertise in fintech and trading systems, along with the extensive system implementation experience of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hang Seng Smart Technology, to support the construction of the HKGXTS core system. Alibaba Cloud will provide relevant technical support in cloud computing and digital infrastructure to help build a secure, stable, and scalable system infrastructure.
HKGXTS Chairman Zhang Dexi stated, "Hong Kong is actively promoting the construction of an international gold trading center and improving the relevant infrastructure of the gold market. The establishment of HKGXTS is an important step in the construction of Hong Kong's gold trading infrastructure. We expect the new system to undergo trial operations in the first quarter of 2027, with the initial phase integrating all existing products, trading, settlement, clearing, and services of HKGX into one system platform. Subsequently, other relevant electronic businesses will be introduced, including services related to gold tokenization; the system will embody the concepts of finance + Web 3 and AI, transforming traditional and conservative physical gold into an important asset that can appreciate in value, diversify, and remain flexible."
HKGXTS CEO and Director Sun Hao stated, "HKGXTS will build a multi-tiered precious metals trading and investment platform based on physical gold delivery, gradually expanding long-term electronic trading capabilities to serve industrial clients and international institutions. At the same time, the company will leverage fintech to enhance trading efficiency, reduce trading and settlement costs, and support multi-currency quotations and settlements. Under the policy guidance of the Hong Kong SAR government in constructing an international gold trading center, HKGXTS will actively cooperate with the relevant financial infrastructure construction of the Hong Kong gold market, ensuring feasibility for alignment with central clearing and regulatory systems, supporting the development and long-term growth of Hong Kong's gold industry."
