The optimized index compilation plan and related constituent stock adjustments will be implemented after the market closes on September 11, 2026, and will take effect on September 14, 2026.
On August 18, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced that it will optimize the compilation scheme of the HKEX Tech 100 Index (Hong Kong Stock Exchange Tech 100) to more comprehensively capture the dynamics of the technology industry in the region and to meet the evolving needs of investors. The optimized index compilation scheme and related adjustments to constituent stocks will be implemented after market close on September 11, 2026, and will take effect on September 14, 2026. The compilation scheme for the HKEX Tech 100 will enhance the criteria for selecting eligible technology companies and constituent stocks, thereby making the index more diversified and representative. The definitions related to technology themes will be updated to broaden the index's coverage of emerging technology trends, including related opportunities in the artificial intelligence (AI) industrial chain. HKEX's Head of Markets, Yu Xueqin, stated, "Continuous innovation in fields such as artificial intelligence and its industrial chain is driving rapid development in the regional technology industry. This adjustment to the index compilation scheme will enhance the representativeness of the HKEX Tech 100 Index and better align it with market demands. As this index gradually garners attention from asset management companies and issuers, the relevant optimizations will also help further promote the development of new investment products in the market to meet the changing needs of investors." In addition, the eligibility criteria for constituent stocks will be appropriately adjusted to enhance the index's relevance to technology; at the same time, the listing time requirements will be revised to allow eligible H-share companies to be included in a timely manner. The HKEX Tech 100 will adjust the weighting calculation of constituent stocks by lowering the maximum weight limit for a single constituent stock and introducing industry weight limits, resulting in a more balanced and representative index composition. Yu Xueqin added, "HKEX is committed to expanding its index business and collaborating with the industry to develop innovative indices and investment products, enriching investor choices, attracting more market participants, and adding vitality to Hong Kong's diverse asset ecosystem." The HKEX Tech 100 is a broad-based technology index launched in December last year, covering multiple innovative technology themes and available for the development of investment products linked to the index.
