Hong Kong: The mid-2026 population estimate is 7.5183 million, a slight increase of 0.3% compared to last year.
The provisional population figure for Hong Kong in mid-2026 is 7,518,300. Compared to the mid-2025 population of 7,498,900, this represents an increase of 19,400 people, or a growth rate of 0.3%.
According to figures released today (August 18) by the Hong Kong government's Census and Statistics Department, the provisional population of Hong Kong in mid-2026 is estimated to be 7,518,300. This represents an increase of 19,400 people or 0.3% compared to the mid-2025 population of 7,498,900.
From mid-2025 to mid-2026, a net inflow of 39,800 Hong Kong residents was recorded (i.e., more people moved in than moved out). During the same period, there was a natural decrease of 20,400 in the population (i.e., more deaths than births), with 29,700 births and 50,100 deaths.
In the total population of mid-2026, there are 7,252,800 permanent residents and 265,500 mobile residents. The revised population figure at the end of 2025 is 7,508,700. The revised number of permanent residents is 7,242,100, while the number of mobile residents is revised to 266,600. The population change rate from the end of 2024 to the end of 2025 is also revised to +0.1%.
A spokesman for the Hong Kong government stated that various measures to attract talent and import labor continue to draw individuals from around the world to Hong Kong, offsetting the effects of natural population decline, resulting in an increase in the population in mid-2026 compared to mid-2025.
