In July, the Exchange Fund's foreign assets increased by HK$13.8 billion, reaching HK$3,694.5 billion. The monetary base was HK$2,080.1 billion, which includes certificates of indebtedness, government-issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the balance of the banking system, as well as issued Exchange Fund bills and bonds. The total amount of the Exchange Fund's claims on the private sector in Hong Kong was HK$413.3 billion. The total foreign liabilities amounted to HK$139.9 billion.
