In news, Maersk announced its financial report for the second quarter of 2026. Benefiting from strong market demand, rising spot rates in shipping, and comprehensive growth across all business segments, the company performed strongly in the second quarter. Based on the actual performance in the second quarter and higher "visibility" regarding business conditions for the remainder of the year, the company announced an upward adjustment to its full-year performance guidance and anticipated approximately 4% growth in global container throughput for 2026. According to the financial report, global demand for transportation and logistics remained resilient in the second quarter of 2026. Factors such as robust market demand, worsening trade imbalances, tight capacity, and increased congestion at ports in Europe, the Middle East, the east coast of South America, and West Africa significantly drove up spot rates for maritime shipping during the reporting period. In maritime operations, Maersk achieved a revenue increase of 23% during the reporting period, with a substantial improvement in profitability.
