Wall Street analysts support NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) $500 billion financing deal: funding is the biggest bottleneck for AI infrastructure.
Multiple Wall Street analysts pointed out that this massive financing agreement precisely addressed the biggest pain point in AI infrastructure constructionfunding, rather than demand.
From being embroiled in the "circular financing" controversy to teaming up with six Wall Street giants to establish a $500 billion external funding pool, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) has achieved a key narrative turnaround in just a few weeks. Multiple Wall Street analysts have pointed out that this colossal financing agreement precisely targets the biggest pain point in AI infrastructure development funding, not demand.
According to reports, NVIDIA Corporation announced on Monday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with financial giants Apollo Global Management Inc, BlackRock, Inc., Blackstone, Bruker Corporation, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., and KKR to establish an independent computing power financing platform, aiming to mobilize over $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure development in the long term.
Here are the main viewpoints from Wall Street analysts:
BofA analyst Vivek Arya clearly stated in an investor report: "Funding has always been the bottleneck, not demand every hyperscaler client is complaining about limited supply. A $500 billion funding pool (equivalent to 2.5 times the network size of Alphabet Inc. Class C) will enable non-investment grade buyers including AI labs, new cloud service providers, and sovereign entities to acquire GPU, computing power, and data center resources at attractive rates, effectively reducing procurement risks and supporting our expectation of a $1.7 trillion addressable market size for AI systems in fiscal year 2026."
"We are still waiting for more details, but the initial assessment is positive the risk burden falls on the syndicate, not NVIDIA Corporation's balance sheet," Arya added. "This seems to mark a shift away from the vendor-financing model (like OpenAIs initial $100 billion financing and about $250 billion guarantees), which had sparked 'circular financing' controversies. We estimate that the exposure affected by such controversies constitutes only about 15% of NVIDIA Corporation's projected $470 billion free cash flow in the 2026-2027 fiscal year."
Following the financing news, BofA reiterated its "Buy" rating on NVIDIA Corporation with a price target of $350, continuing to list it as a preferred stock.
Seeking Alpha analyst Julia Ostian revealed the strategic significance of this agreement from another perspective it opens up a new low-cost funding channel.
Ostian pointed out that the frenzy over AI infrastructure construction is pushing some companies into cash exhaustion. "Those companies investing heavily in AI infrastructure are gradually depleting their cash reserves. The cost of obtaining loans for chips is extremely high because chips are seen as poor collateral their lifecycle is short and unpredictable. This has led to fewer companies purchasing NVIDIA Corporation GPUs, which is a huge issue for them. Jensen Huang's new initiative is aimed precisely at addressing this problem."
Ostian further analyzed: "Once the AI data centers supported by loans become standardized, banks will be able to package these loans into financial instruments such as asset-backed securities (ABS), collateralized loan obligations (CLO), and collateralized debt obligations (CDO). This means that institutional investors like pension funds and insurance companies can purchase these products. Therefore, NVIDIA Corporation is not only preventing tech companies from facing funding shortages but is also opening up a new, substantially sized low-cost financing channel. The aim is to encourage companies to continue purchasing NVIDIA Corporation chips and expand their AI infrastructure, which makes the AI narrative more resilient. One of the biggest concerns in the market was corporate capital exhaustion, but this new agreement will provide more long-term support for AI development."
Morgan Stanley also expressed optimism about this development and emphasized its fundamental difference from "circular financing" transactions.
Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore wrote in a report on Tuesday: "While the market is concerned about the 'circular financing' issue, NVIDIA Corporations actual direct credit exposure to date has been mainly limited to providing credit guarantees for only a few small new cloud service providers. NVIDIA Corporation's latest 10-Q filing disclosed that its total exposure related to partner leasing guarantees is $3.5 billion. However, the company has indeed made equity investments in certain customers and ecosystem partners. Given the strong performance of the AI ecosystem, these public market investments have performed well overall, while private equity investments are hard to assess, it's worth noting that these private transactions are equity investments, not donations or guarantees."
Morgan Stanley reiterated its "Overweight" rating on NVIDIA Corporation with a target price of $288, continuing to list it as a preferred stock.
"Investment partners will evaluate each investment opportunity on a case-by-case basis, and no investment decisions have been made yet," Moore added. "NVIDIA Corporation will provide ecosystem support and may offer up to 25% 'residual value guarantee mechanisms' on certain investments in their words, this is a 'limited, residual-based supplementary arrangement intended to complement rather than replace independent underwriting reviews.'"
However, RBC Capital Markets also reminded investors that the actual infrastructure on the ground from this financing plan will still take time.
RBC Capital Markets analyst Srini Pajjuri noted in a report: "Although no specific timeline has been disclosed, considering the long cycles of data center/power procurement and the tight chip supply situation, we expect any reasonably sized new projects to take 2 to 4 years to complete. Therefore, we anticipate that the program's contribution to revenue over the next 18 months will be limited, and we estimate that NVIDIA Corporation could convert 40% to 50% of the more than $500 billion in funds over the next four years into actual revenue."
RBC reiterated its "Outperform" rating on NVIDIA Corporation with a target price of $300.
Wedbush Securities believes that this financing arrangement will further solidify NVIDIA Corporation's dominant position in data center construction.
Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson stated in a report on Tuesday: "While there has been some degree of diversification in the application of AI chips (with Broadcom Inc., AMD, Marvell, and Cerebras achieving some level of success), NVIDIA Corporation remains almost the sole supplier of computing power infrastructure in non-hyperscale/frontier model data center construction. We believe this funding is an important mechanism to support NVIDIA Corporations leadership and growth beyond hyperscale customers. NVIDIA Corporation has indicated that hyperscale customers account for about 50% of its revenue."
Tipranks data shows that the vast majority of Wall Street analysts have a positive outlook for NVIDIA Corporation, with a consensus rating of "Strong Buy" and an average target price of $309.94, which is 42.5% higher than the latest closing price.
