HKELECTRIC-SS (02638) announced its mid-year results for 2026, with revenue of HKD 5.939 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.68%; profit attributable to shareholders of HKD 1.003 billion, up 0.2% year-on-year; and earnings per share of HKD 0.1135. The interim distribution is HKD 0.1594 per share unit. In the first half of 2026, electricity sales increased by 2% compared to the same period last year, mainly due to relatively mild weather and improved economic conditions, which boosted electricity demand from commercial customers. In January 2026, the average net electricity tariff for Hongkong Electric was HKD 0.1633 per kilowatt-hour. The net electricity tariff comprises a basic electricity tariff and a fuel adjustment fee, with the monthly adjustment mechanism for the fuel adjustment fee having a deferred effect. By the end of June 2026, the net electricity tariff had decreased to HKD 0.1592 per kilowatt-hour due to the acquisition of lower fuel costs before the outbreak of conflicts in the Middle East at the beginning of the year. International fuel prices have remained high since March 2026, and the fuel adjustment fee is expected to rise significantly in the second half of the year and persist for some time. Due to the anticipated rise in net electricity tariffs, in order to alleviate the burden on customers, Hongkong Electric, through the Smart Electricity Care Fund, is providing a special electricity tariff subsidy of HKD 0.08 per kilowatt-hour for residential customers using 450 kilowatt-hours or less per month from August to October 2026. Eligible customers account for about half of Hongkong Electric's total residential customer base.
