On August 10, the Hang Seng Index Company published a consultation document to solicit market opinions on possible revisions to the calculation method of the Hang Seng Technology Index.
As the Hong Kong technology sector continues to expand, the proposed revisions aim to broaden the coverage of the technology theme, optimize the selection mechanism for constituent stocks, and increase the number of constituent stocks, so that the index continuously represents the evolving technology landscape.
The revisions are expected to be announced by the end of September 2026 and implemented in the index review as of September 30, 2026, but still require a final decision from the Index Advisory Committee after considering consultation feedback. Any corresponding changes to the index constituent stocks will take effect in the index adjustment in December 2026.
The Hang Seng Index Company manages and compiles the Hang Seng Index series, covering stocks listed in Hong Kong and Mainland China. The indices under its purview include the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng H-Share Index ETF, and Hang Seng Technology Index, as well as indices related to Stock Connect, the Greater Bay Area, sustainable development, and various industries.
