Thanks to rising oil prices and increased production, Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY.US) announced its highest quarterly profit since 2022 on Wednesday, exceeding Wall Street expectations. The financial report showed that Occidental Petroleum Corporation's Q2 revenue reached $8.32 billion, a year-on-year increase of 57.0%, surpassing expectations by $1.07 billion; adjusted earnings per share were $2.40, exceeding expectations by $0.55.
The average benchmark Brent crude oil price for the quarter rose by 19.2% year-on-year to $89.62 per barrel, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has entered its sixth month and disrupted energy supplies and shipping through the key Strait of Hormuz.
In the three months ending June 30, Occidental Petroleum Corporation sold its crude oil for an average price that soared more than 50% year-on-year to $96.78 per barrel.
Global average production increased by 2.4%, reaching 1.43 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, primarily driven by strong performance in the United States.
However, production from Occidental Petroleum Corporation's international assets in Algeria, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE fell by 12% to 205,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. This decline was attributed to repeated outbreaks of conflict in the Middle East and attacks on energy infrastructure, which have heightened tensions in this crucial oil-producing region.

Larger U.S. competitors have also reported strong second-quarter profits due to soaring oil prices. Chevron Corporation posted its highest profit in six years, while Exxon Mobil Corporation recorded its largest profit in four years.
Rising oil prices have driven Occidental Petroleum Corporation's profits close to 2022 peak levels.
For the current quarter, the company expects production to range from 1.4 to 1.44 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, with Permian Basin production expected to average between 795,000 and 815,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Occidental Petroleum Corporation has also narrowed its annual production outlook to between 1.42 and 1.45 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, with international production expected to be between 220,000 and 224,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Earlier this year, the company had lowered its production outlook citing the impact of the Iran conflict on its operations.
By 2025, Occidental Petroleum Corporation's international assets are expected to account for 16.2% of total production.
Occidental Petroleum Corporation's 2025 international oil production is projected to be 232,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The company currently expects capital expenditures for 2026 to be between $5.5 billion and $5.9 billion, down from the previous forecast of $6.3 billion to $6.7 billion.
