Data from S3 Partners shows that currently about 30% of the available shares are in a short position, with short sellers making an estimated profit of about $7 billion, and the scale of shorting even exceeds that of Tesla, Inc. Meanwhile, the phased release structure means that Thursday is not the endpointby early December this year, the total number of SpaceX's tradable shares will surge from the current approximately 639 million shares to 5.33 billion shares, an increase of over seven times compared to the current level.
SpaceX has reported its first quarterly earnings since the IPO. In the second quarter of 2026, the company achieved revenue of $7.814 billion, a 92% year-on-year increase, exceeding market expectations of around $6.9 billion; net loss was $541 million, significantly narrower than $1.008 billion in the same period last year. Capital expenditures for the AI business in the second quarter were approximately $15.8 billion, higher than market expectations, and the company anticipates that capital expenditures in the third and fourth quarters will be comparable to those in the second quarter, raising concerns in the market about the path to profitability.
