Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) is about to undergo a leadership change, with the new CEO appointing a retired deputy to return, and the management team is set for a significant reshuffle.
According to reports, Apple's incoming CEO John Ternus is working to assemble his core management team and has brought back a trusted ally who had worked alongside him in the hardware engineering department for many years.
According to reports, John Ternus, the incoming new CEO of Apple Inc. (AAPL.US), is working to assemble his core management team and has reappointed a trusted lieutenant who collaborated with him in the hardware engineering department for many years.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Ternus has hired Laura Legros, who served as Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple Inc. until her retirement in 2022. As this personnel change has yet to be publicly announced, the sources requested anonymity. Legros will report directly to Ternus once he officially takes office as CEO on September 1.
This move indicates that Ternus is beginning to stamp his influence on the new management team. Meanwhile, it is also a rare case of Apple Inc. rehiring a retired executive. Ternus will succeed Tim Cook as CEO, who is transitioning to the role of Executive Chairman after serving the longest tenure of any CEO in Apple Inc. history.
A spokesperson for Apple Inc., headquartered in Cupertino, California, declined to comment on the news.
It is understood that in her new position, Legros will work as a Vice President, responsible for cross-departmental coordination and horizontal collaboration across the company's various business units.
During her tenure at Apple Inc., Legros was responsible for product delivery, development schedule management, and coordinating cooperation among various engineering teams to ensure overall alignment.
Before her retirement, she was one of Ternus's most trusted deputies. In 2018, she appeared at an Apple Inc. product launch to introduce the new MacBook Air; two years later, she hosted the launch of the current iPad Air.
In recent months, Ternus has been shadowing Cook and participating in executive meetings. The soon-to-be CEO has met with heads of various departments and reviewed the roadmaps for multiple business units for the coming year.
Additionally, Ternus has spent considerable time communicating with Apple Inc.'s design team since the end of last year. According to reports, besides integrating Legros into the new team, Ternus also plans to make adjustments to Apple Inc.'s design department.
In the coming months and years, Ternus will need to implement more senior personnel adjustments. Several core executives at Apple Inc. are approaching retirement age, and it is anticipated that several executives will depart in the coming years.
Kate Adams, the current head of government affairs and former general counsel, has indicated plans to retire at the end of this year. Her position will be filled by the new General Counsel Jennifer Newstead.
Additionally, former Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri, who now oversees the real estate and information systems teams, along with Phil Schiller, who stepped down as marketing chief in 2020 and currently manages the App Store, are also approaching the end of their careers at Apple Inc.
