Anhui Anke Biotechnology (300009.SZ) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Shanghai Suhao Yiming Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., recently received the Certificate of Suitability for European Pharmacopoeia (CEP) for octreotide active pharmaceutical ingredient issued by the European Medicines Quality Assurance Agency. The acquisition of this CEP certificate will enable the companys octreotide active pharmaceutical ingredient to gain market access qualifications for the European Union, which will positively impact the expansion of the companys peptide active pharmaceutical ingredient market overseas. It is reported that octreotide is a synthetic octapeptide derivative of natural somatostatin, with pharmacological effects similar to those of somatostatin but with a longer duration of action. Octreotide can inhibit the secretion of growth hormone and thyrotropin, suppress the secretion of gastric acid, pancreatic enzymes, glucagon, and insulin, reduce gastric motility and gallbladder emptying, inhibit the secretion of cholecystokinin and secretin, and decrease pancreatic secretions, directly protecting the membranes of pancreatic parenchymal cells. It reduces visceral blood flow, lowers portal pressure, decreases excessive secretion in the intestines, increases water and sodium absorption in the intestines, and is used for the emergency treatment of esophagogastric variceal bleeding caused by acromegaly and liver cirrhosis.
