Wong Ka-wa will take over as the Director-General of the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department on August 10th.

Current Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department, Wong Ka Wah, will assume the position of Director of the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department on August 10, 2026, succeeding Cheok Chi Yung who will start his pre-retirement leave on the same day.
On July 24, the Hong Kong SAR Government announced that the current Deputy Director of Civil Aviation in Hong Kong, Wong Ka-wa, will assume the position of Director of Civil Aviation on August 10, 2026, taking over from Liao Chi-wing, who will begin his retirement leave on the same day. Regarding Wong Ka-wa's appointment, the Director of Civil Service Bureau, Yang Ho-pui-yan, said, "Wong Ka-wa possesses rich expertise and experience in civil aviation. I believe she will be able to lead the Civil Aviation Department to tackle future challenges." As for the retiring Liao Chi-wing, Yang Ho-pui-yan stated, "During his thirty-six years of government service, Liao Chi-wing has dedicated himself to strengthening and enhancing Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub. Particularly, his leadership in promoting the recovery of the local aviation industry post-pandemic, supporting the development of domestic aircraft, and implementing the three-runway system construction has made significant contributions. I sincerely wish Captain Liao a happy retirement." Liao Chi-wing joined the Hong Kong Social Welfare Department as an Assistant Social Work Officer in February 1990, and became a Grade 2 Administrative Officer in November 1990. He joined the Civil Aviation Department as an Assistant Civil Aviation Officer in March 1992, was promoted to Senior Civil Aviation Officer in August 2006, Deputy Director of Civil Aviation in July 2011, Deputy Director of Civil Aviation in August 2018, and has been serving as Director of Civil Aviation since April 2020. Wong Ka-wa joined the Civil Aviation Department in June 1997 as an Assistant Civil Aviation Officer, was promoted to Senior Civil Aviation Officer in June 2014, Deputy Director of Civil Aviation in August 2020, and has been serving as Deputy Director of Civil Aviation since July 2024.
