Boeing Company(BA.US) Expands Production Capacity in Key Turning Point! FAA Restores Final Approval for 737 Max and 787 New Aircraft
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that even though it has restored the authority for Boeing to sign final release certificates for new production 737 Max and 787 aircraft, regulatory agencies will continue to supervise the quality level of this aircraft manufacturer.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that even though the authority has been restored for Boeing Company (BA.US) to sign off on the final release of new production 737 Max and 787 aircraft, regulatory authorities will continue to oversee the quality level of the aircraft manufacturer.
FAA Deputy Director Chris Rocheleau stated in an interview, "We have been working very closely with Boeing Company to ensure that they as we have said are able to 'turn the corner' in terms of producing safe aircraft." He added, "In terms of the current regulatory and oversight situation, we are confident about it."
After a near-catastrophic incident involving a 737 Max aircraft in 2024, regulatory agencies found a series of quality issues with Boeing Company. Subsequently, the FAA restricted Boeing Company's aircraft production rate and revoked the company's authority to sign off on the final release of new production aircraft.
The decision to restore Boeing Company's related authorities will officially take effect on July 20th, reflecting the progress the company has made in improving quality management and regaining trust from regulatory authorities. This is crucial for Boeing Company to expand its production scale, improve its financial situation, and regain an advantage in competition with its rival Airbus. Currently, the American aircraft manufacturer is working to stabilize the production of its "cash cow" product, the 737 series, with a target of maintaining a monthly output of 47 aircraft, gradually increasing to 63 aircraft in the coming years.
Earlier this month, Boeing Company officially opened its fourth 737 Max assembly line near Seattle to deliver its growing backlog of orders, although the initial production rate of the new line will be low. This new assembly line is a key element for Boeing Company to increase the production of the 737 MAX series. Boeing Company senior executive Jennifer Boland-Masterson stated that Boeing Company will employ a slow production mode in the current stage to address various production risks and ensure smooth operation of the assembly line. She did not disclose the specific pace of expansion for the line, but mentioned that they will gradually hire more workers as production capacity increases.
US regulatory authorities also expect to approve the latest models of the 737 Max series in the coming months. While Rocheleau did not provide a specific certification timeline for the Max 7 and Max 10 models, he stated that Boeing Company is "getting closer every day" to approval. He noted that the certification work for the 737 Max 7 is "very close to completion."
