On July 15, the Hong Kong Airport Authority released the annual report for the year 2025/26 ending on March 31, 2026. Throughout the year, all aspects of air traffic at Hong Kong International Airport maintained a growth momentum, with passenger traffic recording a double-digit increase of 14.7% to 63 million people, aircraft movements increasing by 7.1% to 399,450 flights. Cargo throughput rose by 2.7% to 5.1 million tonnes, making Hong Kong International Airport the world's busiest cargo airport for the 15th time since 2010. The continuous increase in air traffic further solidifies Hong Kong International Airport's position as a premier hub in Asia.
The financial performance of the Hong Kong Airport Authority in the 2025/26 fiscal year was robust, achieving a profit after tax of HK$2.043 billion, with the board announcing a dividend payout of HK$500 million to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.
Chairman of the Hong Kong Airport Authority, LIN TENFU, stated, "The National 15th Five-Year Plan clearly supports Hong Kong in consolidating and enhancing its status as an international aviation hub. In the past year, Hong Kong International Airport has continued to actively strengthen its leading position as an international aviation hub, laying the foundation for future development. With the three-runway system providing capacity for long-term growth in air traffic, and the continuous progress of several core projects in SKYTOPIA, the development of the airport is entering a new chapter."
Hong Kong International Airport expanded its global air network further, adding 26 new destinations, primarily in emerging markets along the Belt and Road initiative. By the end of the 2025/26 fiscal year, approximately 140 airlines were operating at the airport, connecting to over 220 destinations worldwide.
With the phased opening of the expanded Terminal 2 during the year, the airport's passenger services marked another significant milestone. The new Terminal 2 Passenger Waiting Hall was first used in September 2025, focusing on handling cross-boundary coach and private car services, followed by the new passenger departure facilities opening in May 2026.
Hong Kong International Airport also enhanced its passenger services in the Greater Bay Area, expanding the city check-in facilities to 38 service points during the year, which further increased to 41 by June 2026, allowing passengers to complete pre-flight registration and related procedures before flying internationally from Hong Kong. In November 2025, the Airport Authority introduced the innovative multimodal transportation service "EZPARKFLY," enabling air passengers from designated cities in Guangdong Province and Macau to drive to the automated parking lot at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Hong Kong Port, and then transfer to flights at Hong Kong International Airport to travel worldwide.
To consolidate its leading position as a global air cargo hub, the Hong Kong Airport Authority invested strategically in cargo facilities and operations, further enhancing cargo handling capacity. The Dongguan Air Cargo Center at Hong Kong International Airport allows exports from the Greater Bay Area to complete security checks, palletization, and cargo reception in Dongguan, before being transported by sea to the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport for onward shipment to overseas destinations. International goods can also enter the mainland Chinese market through Hong Kong International Airport and the Air Cargo Center. By the end of the 2025/26 fiscal year, 30 airlines and 144 Hong Kong cargo agents were operating at the Air Cargo Center, with cargo volume and value increasing by over 90% compared to the previous year. The permanent facilities of the first phase of the Air Cargo Center are expected to be fully operational by 2027. Additionally, Hong Kong International Airport launched the "Air-Land Perishable Products Exclusive Express" during the year, streamlining transfer procedures for fruits, fresh and frozen goods, and live seafood, allowing these goods to be transported directly to the mainland via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, significantly enhancing transport efficiency and reliability.
In the 2025/26 fiscal year, the Hong Kong Airport Authority continued to advance several key development projects in SKYTOPIA. The second phase of the AsiaWorld-Expo is in progress, with a performance venue seating 20,000 already under construction and planned for completion by the end of 2028. Additionally, the Airport Authority has appointed a professional operator to manage the facilities for storing art and precious items, which are scheduled to be operational by 2027. The first automated public transport system in Hong Kong, the Aerospace Corridor, is planned to commence services in the 2026/27 fiscal year, greatly enhancing the convenience of travel to and from the airport island and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Hong Kong Port in the Greater Bay Area. The construction of the "Airport-Tung Chung Dedicated Lane," connecting SKYTOPIA with the nearby Tung Chung town center, has also begun, with an expected completion date in 2028/29, further enhancing the transportation connectivity between the airport and surrounding communities, as well as nearby commercial and hotel developments.
