A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said: "The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is an independent regulatory body in the accounting profession, playing an important role in upholding the integrity of financial reporting and promoting sound corporate governance. In its statutory role, the FRC is empowered to inquire into whether the financial reports of listed entities contravene laws, accounting standards or regulatory requirements."
The Review Committee is a statutory body established under the Financial Reporting Council Ordinance, which is crucial in assisting the FRC in performing its statutory functions relating to inquiries. The members of the committee possess extensive experience and professional knowledge, which will benefit the work of the committee. In cases where inquiries are needed, the FRC can appoint a convenor and four or more members from the committee to form a Financial Reporting Review Panel to conduct inquiries into non-compliance matters. The panel will then submit inquiry reports to the FRC for review and take further action as appropriate.
