Sun Dong stated that with the support of the country, Hong Kong is rapidly building an international innovation and technology center, and Hong Kong also has significant advantages in promoting green development.
On July 10th, Professor Song Dong, the Secretary for Innovation and Technology in Hong Kong, pointed out during his speech at the TVB Green Summit 2026 that green technology in Hong Kong will see greater development opportunities. Currently, Hong Kong's three major innovation and technology parks - the Science Park, Cyberport, and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park - have attracted over 300 companies specializing in green technology, creating a vibrant ecosystem for green innovation. The future development of the Lok Ma Chau Loop Innovation and Technology Park will further promote the industrialization and innovation of Hong Kong, facilitating the strategic development of innovation industries including green technology. From the smart infrastructure development of electric vehicles on land, to the conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems, to the establishment of a complete sustainable aviation fuel industry chain, he looks forward to more outstanding Hong Kong innovation companies proposing innovative solutions with global competitiveness for green development and transformation. Song Dong emphasized that with the support of the country, Hong Kong is rapidly building an international innovation and technology center and has advantages to drive green development. Hong Kong is the only city globally with five top 100 universities, strong basic research capabilities, a highly international business environment, a well-established intellectual property protection system, and a leading green financing platform in Asia, all of which provide a solid foundation for the flourishing development of green technology in Hong Kong. Under the principle of "One Country, Two Systems", Hong Kong serves as a "super connector" and "super value-added person" between the country and the world, complementing the advantages of the Greater Bay Area sister cities, attracting technology companies, funds, and talents from home and abroad, and providing important support for the green development in the region. He further stated that the Hong Kong SAR Government is actively improving the innovation and technology ecosystem in Hong Kong, promoting the mutual development of the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the innovation and technology economy, and providing more favorable development conditions for different technology fields, including green technology. For example, the Innovation and Technology Fund has funded approximately 160 research and development projects related to green technology. The newly established third InnoHK research platform focuses on advanced manufacturing, materials, energy, and sustainable development, supporting Hong Kong in nurturing world-class green scientific research outcomes and responding to the national strategy of developing new energy, new materials, and energy conservation and environmental protection. Looking ahead, artificial intelligence (AI) will be a key force driving global green transformation. The powerful data analysis, machine learning, and inference capabilities of AI will further drive the green development in various fields. In addition, Hong Kong has made systematic arrangements in policy governance, scientific research innovation, industrial application, and computing power infrastructure to accelerate the realization of "AI industrialization, industrial AI", seizing the opportunities brought about by this technological revolution to empower Hong Kong's green future with AI. Song Dong emphasized that green is not just the foundation for the high-quality development of Hong Kong and the country, but also the main theme for global future development. In addition to government investment, it also requires cooperation from various sectors including industry, academia, research, and investment. He looks forward to experts, scholars, and industry elites brainstorming together and contributing to green development and transformation in Hong Kong, the country, and the world through interdisciplinary exchanges.
