Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) Logistics offensive intensifies! JP Morgan: Traditional express giants face more fierce competition.
With Amazon continuing to expand its logistics business, the competitive pressure on traditional courier giants is further intensifying.
With the continuous expansion of its logistics business, Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) is further intensifying the competitive pressure on traditional express delivery giants. According to the latest research report released by Morgan Stanley, Amazon.com, Inc. currently provides third-party customers with low-cost logistics services that continuously improve delivery speeds, and may even launch overnight delivery in the future, posing a greater threat to United Parcel Service (UPS.US) and FedEx Corporation (FDX.US).
In response to this news, the stock prices of UPS and FedEx Corporation temporarily gave back their early gains during trading on Thursday. By the end of the trading day, the stock prices of both companies had slightly increased.
Morgan Stanley analyst Ravi Shanker stated in the report that although Amazon.com, Inc. has not yet provided the overnight delivery services that UPS and FedEx Corporation rely on to compete, it is expected that this service will be launched in the near future.
In recent years, Amazon.com, Inc. has been continuously improving its logistics network, not only to meet its own e-commerce shipping needs but also to open up logistics services to third-party sellers, engaging in direct competition with traditional express delivery companies. Analysts believe that Amazon.com, Inc.'s expansion may not only erode the market share of UPS and FedEx Corporation in the e-commerce parcel delivery market but also have the potential to further enter higher-profit areas such as healthcare logistics.
Industry media Supply Chain Dive reported previously that with its extensive logistics network and economies of scale, Amazon.com, Inc.'s parcel delivery service charges are comparable to those of UPS and FedEx Corporation, and in some cases even lower than the two companies. In addition, it has been reported that some of Amazon.com, Inc.'s logistics services are priced lower than the United States Postal Service, which has long been seen as the "price floor" of the U.S. parcel delivery industry.
Analysts point out that as the logistics network continues to improve, Amazon.com, Inc. is gradually turning its logistics system from the infrastructure serving its own e-commerce business into an independent business serving external customers. If it further launches high-value-added services such as overnight delivery in the future, the competitive pressure on the traditional express delivery industry may further increase.
