According to reports, a fatal car accident occurred in Katy, Texas: a Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) Model 3 crashed into a residence, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old woman. The accident is believed to be related to the vehicle having its automatic driving assistance system (Autopilot) activated at the time of the accident. Reportedly, on the evening of June 19th local time, a 44-year-old man was driving a Tesla, Inc. Model 3 in a residential area in Katy when he failed to make a successful right turn. The vehicle speedily left the road and crashed directly into a brick house. The impact caused the vehicle to go through an outer wall and enter the house, resulting in a 76-year-old woman inside the house being injured. The injured person was rushed to the hospital by helicopter, but unfortunately died due to severe injuries. The driver told investigators that the vehicle was equipped with the automatic driving assistance system at the time of the incident, but it did not make the turn correctly, causing the vehicle to crash into the house. The initial investigation report indicates that the involved vehicle was in a "high-speed" state at the time; the driver was evaluated afterwards and no signs of intoxication were found. The driver was taken to the hospital for injuries but is not in life-threatening condition. Local law enforcement agencies and federal safety regulators are currently verifying whether the involved Tesla, Inc. vehicle did have the driving assistance system activated, and if the system was functioning properly or misused at the time of the collision. Investigators stated that they have not yet confirmed the vehicle's autonomous driving status from the data records, and the investigation is still ongoing.
