ASML Holding NV ADR (ASML.US) CEO: Demand for AI infrastructure "still huge" Musk's Terafab faces supply bottleneck test
Asmai must ensure that there are no supply shortages when providing services for new projects such as Elon Musk's Terafab.
ASML Holding NV ADR, the giant of lithography machines, CEO Christophe Fouquet said on Wednesday that the chip equipment manufacturer must ensure that they do not face any supply shortages when servicing new projects like Elon Musk's Terafab.
When asked about the new business brought by Terafab, Fouquet said, "As long as the supply is not restricted, new projects are opportunities. So we must ensure that this is properly handled, but I think Terafab is a model for a large wafer fab project."
Fouquet also said during his speech at the Vivatech conference in Paris that the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is still huge, and discussed the potential of space data centers.
Last week, Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX CEO Musk attended ASML Holding NV ADR's annual technology conference via video link and spoke with Fouquet and ASML Holding NV ADR employees. SpaceX just completed its largest IPO a few days ago.
Fouquet confirmed last month that he had discussed the Terafab project with Musk, and he believes that the project is a "serious business." Fouquet warned at that time that the surge in demand for artificial intelligence would lead to a long-term shortage of production capacity in the global semiconductor industry, and large projects like Terafab would continue to squeeze the supply of equipment manufacturers.
ASML Holding NV ADR announced earlier this month that they will participate in Musk's ambitious Terafab project, which aims to produce enough semiconductors to meet the needs of Musk's companies.
According to official documents, SpaceX initially proposed investing $55 billion to launch the highly anticipated Terafab semiconductor factory in Austin, Texas. The factory will produce cutting-edge chips for Siasun Robot&Automation, artificial intelligence, and space data centers. According to Musk's outline, Terafab will ultimately independently produce logic and storage chips with a 2-nanometer (2nm) process or more advanced, aiming to completely eliminate the reliance on external foundries like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR.
Fouquet said that ASML Holding NV ADR is assessing the progress and pace of the project.
ASML Holding NV ADR is the only company in the world capable of manufacturing extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment, with customers including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR, Samsung, SK Hynix, Intel Corporation, and other mainstream chip manufacturers. If Terafab progresses as planned, it will become the core purchaser of ASML Holding NV ADR's system products, potentially surpassing the size of their current largest customer.
