Hong Kong International Airport saw a steady increase in air traffic in May. During the month, the airport received a total of 5.34 million passengers, with aircraft movements reaching 33,655, representing a year-on-year increase of 10.2% and 3.6% respectively. Cargo volume also increased by 3.0% to 435,000 metric tons. The overall increase in passenger traffic in May was mainly driven by double-digit growth in transit passengers, followed by visitors to Hong Kong. During the Chinese mainland's Labor Day "Golden Week" holiday, the airport saw a daily passenger volume of 204,000 on May 1. By region, most markets recorded growth in passenger traffic in May, with the Chinese mainland, Japan, and Southeast Asia performing the best. The overall increase in cargo volume was mainly driven by transshipment cargo, which saw a significant 23.2% increase, followed by import cargo, which increased by 1.2%. The performance of cargo varied by region, with growth in the Chinese mainland and Southeast Asia offsetting declines in markets such as India. It is worth noting that the Middle East region recorded moderate growth in May, marking the first increase since the conflict in March. Hong Kong International Airport further expanded its global route network, with Delta Air Lines resuming its flights between Hong Kong and Los Angeles from June 8, offering seven flights per week to strengthen the airport's connection with North America. Sun Country Airlines and Hong Kong Airlines also launched new routes to/from Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam and Lanzhou in May, respectively. As of the first five months of this year, passenger traffic has surged by 12.5% to 27.7 million passengers, while aircraft movements have increased by 4.8% to 168,745. Compared to the same period last year, cargo volume has increased by 3.6% to 2.06 million metric tons. In the past 12 months, Hong Kong International Airport saw a total of 64 million passengers and 402,415 aircraft movements, representing increases of 13.0% and 6.1% respectively, while cargo volume increased by 3.0% to 5.14 million metric tons.
