Lithium battery concept stocks led the gains, as of the time of writing, Hongqiao Group (08137) rose 3.23% to HK$0.64; CATL (03750) rose 1.63% to HK$716.5; and A123 Systems (02465) rose 1.45% to HK$14.02.
Concept stocks of lithium battery surged ahead. As of the time of writing, HONBRIDGE (08137) rose by 3.23%, reaching 0.64 Hong Kong dollars; Contemporary Amperex Technology (03750) rose by 1.63%, reaching 716.5 Hong Kong dollars; Jiangsu Lopal Tech. Group (02465) rose by 1.45%, reaching 14.02 Hong Kong dollars. On the news front, on June 15, the Secretary General of the China Automobile Dealers Association Passenger Vehicle Market Information Joint Conference issued a statement, stating that total demand for lithium batteries in the first four months of 2026 reached 671 million kilowatt hours, a substantial increase of 51% year-on-year. BOC International believes that with the arrival of the peak demand season, global sales of new energy vehicles in 2026 are expected to maintain rapid growth, driving the growth of battery and material demand, further promoting the signing of corporate orders and profit recovery. Dongguan Securities pointed out that high oil prices are accelerating the penetration rate of electric vehicles, and the seasonal recovery momentum of terminal demand is beginning to show; in the energy storage field, supply and demand are both strong, with the release of global large-scale energy storage demand, the rise of AI data center storage, and the strengthening of energy security strategies in various countries in the context of rising oil and gas prices, combined with the implementation of domestic electricity price compensation policies, collectively driving high-speed growth in energy storage demand; in June, the production pre-allocation of battery companies increased month-on-month, reflecting the continued high prosperity of downstream demand.
