The Hong Kong Computer Society has released the "Hong Kong Tech Industry Trends Survey 2026", which shows that in terms of the overall outlook for the tech industry in Hong Kong, sixty percent are optimistic or very optimistic, with fifty percent stating that they will increase IT spending this year. As for cooperation with the Greater Bay Area, 68.3% of respondents believe it will have a positive impact on the development of the tech industry in Hong Kong.
The top five technology trends that will have the biggest impact on Hong Kong in 2026 are artificial intelligence (generative AI / AI agents), network security and quantum security technology, digital platforms and intelligent automation, data and analytics/data governance, and cloud and edge computing. The biggest challenges faced by IT investment and digital transformation are talent shortages, unclear business investment returns, and budget constraints.
The Society conducted a survey in the first quarter of this year among its CIO Board and corporate members, receiving responses from 41 organizations, including many large public and private institutions in Hong Kong; 85.37% of the organizations surveyed employ more than 500 employees, with over sixty percent having over 2,000 employees.
In terms of respondents, 48.78% are Chief Information Officers (CIOs), IT Directors, or Heads of IT, with 12.20% being Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), and 12.20% being Senior IT Managers. The industry covers various key sectors in Hong Kong.
