Tesla (TSLA.US) has received approval for its supervised version of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system to be used in Belgium.
Tesla, Inc. has been granted approval to use its supervised full self-driving system (FSD) in Belgium, marking another step in the electric car manufacturer's expansion strategy in Europe. Annick De Ridder, Minister of Mobility in Flanders, Belgium, signed the approval documents after Tesla, Inc. completed a series of tests in the country. De Ridder posted a picture of the official signed document on Twitter, writing, "I have just signed the approval documents." In recent weeks, under De Ridder's leadership, Belgium has accelerated the approval process, with official authorization arriving earlier than expected. The authorization obtained in one of Belgium's three regions is valid throughout the country. This decision makes Belgium the fifth EU country to approve Tesla, Inc.'s supervised FSD, following the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, and Denmark. Denmark approved Tesla, Inc.'s FSD on Tuesday, with Belgium following soon after. Joey Klender, a contributor for the well-known automotive media outlet Teslarati, believes that Belgium's approval is significant and indicates that other European countries may quickly approve Tesla, Inc.'s FSD package in succession. The overall progress of approvals in various countries is a positive signal. He also mentioned that the next major milestone for FSD certification in Europe could come from countries such as the UK, Italy, France, Spain, or Germany. At that time, the performance of FSD in core European cities like London, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Rome, and Berlin will be closely watched.
