The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) released the March 2026 issue of the "Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme Statistical Digest" quarterly publication today. In the first quarter of this year, there were 5000 early withdrawal claims for Trillions of MPF due to permanent departure from Hong Kong, an increase of 19.05% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 25.37% compared to the previous year, involving an amount of 1.188 billion Hong Kong dollars, an increase of 16.02% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 26.94% compared to the previous year. In the first quarter, there were also 6500 claims for Trillions of MPF withdrawals for offsetting severance pay, a decrease of 7.14% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 31.58% compared to the previous year, with an amount of 574 million Hong Kong dollars, remaining flat compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 31.99% compared to the previous year. In the first quarter of 2026, the total contributions received by Trillions of MPF reached a quarterly record high of 24.4 billion Hong Kong dollars, of which mandatory contributions and voluntary contributions accounted for 17.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (72%) and 6.9 billion Hong Kong dollars (28%), respectively. As of the end of March 2026, the total assets of Trillions of MPF were approximately 153 billion Hong Kong dollars, an increase of 159% compared to ten years ago. Since the implementation of the Trillions of MPF system in 2000, the average annualized net return (excluding fees and charges) of the stock funds and mixed asset funds, which together account for 80% of the total assets of Trillions of MPF, were 4.8% and 4.4%, respectively, outperforming the 1.8% annualized inflation rate during the same period. As of the end of March 2026, the number of tax-deductible voluntary contributions (TVC) accounts for Trillions of MPF surpassed 100,000 for the first time (10.1 million), with a 17% increase compared to the previous year. The total contributions to TVC accounts in the first quarter of 2026 reached 1.5 billion, the highest quarterly figure since the implementation of TVC in April 2019, with a cumulative contribution amount of 15.6 billion Hong Kong dollars since its implementation.
