(00902) rose by 2.28% to HK$6.74; CHINA RES POWER(00836) rose by 2.1% to HK$20.46; Huadian Power International Corporation(01071) rose by 1.78% to HK$4.58. On the news front, on Monday local time, U.S. utility giant NextEra Energy announced its acquisition of Dominion Energy, with a transaction value of $66.8 billion. This merger will give rise to one of the largest utility companies in the world, surpassing the total size of the second and third largest power companies in the United States. As data centers expand massively to support the artificial intelligence industry, the demand for electricity supply is surging, and this merger is an important move for future energy to seize the market opportunity. According to statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the overall electricity price in the United States has risen by about 40% in the past five years, with double-digit increases in popular data center regions such as Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania last year. Morgan Stanley pointed out that driven by a 350% surge in Token demand, capital expenditures for hyperscalers in 2026 have been significantly increased from $450 billion to $800 billion. Morgan Stanley predicts that data centers will face a power gap of 55GW.
