Chip stocks tumbled sharply in midday trading, with the morning losses narrowing slightly. As of the time of writing, ASMPT (00522) fell by 4.66% to 173.8 Hong Kong dollars; Huahong Semiconductor (01347) fell by 2.62% to 126.4 Hong Kong dollars; and SMIC (00981) fell by 1.75% to 72.85 Hong Kong dollars.
Chip stocks fell sharply in intraday trading, with some narrowing in the morning. As of the time of writing, ASM Pacific Technology (00522) fell by 4.66% to 173.8 Hong Kong dollars; HUA HONG SEMI (01347) fell by 2.62% to 126.4 Hong Kong dollars; Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (00981) fell by 1.75% to 72.85 Hong Kong dollars. On the news front, it was reported that NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun changed his schedule temporarily and will accompany US President Trump on his visit to China. Reports indicate that as a newly added member, Huang Renxun boarded Air Force One on May 13 and flew to China. Huang Renxun's visit to China has sparked speculation in the market about the improvement in H200 chip supply. Soochow pointed out that Huang Renxun has long been lobbying the US government to relax export restrictions on AI chips to China. Last year, he successfully pushed for the White House to approve the sale of H200 chips. Therefore, whether he attends or not has significant signal significance. However, the brokerage also stated that overall, the trend towards domestic computing power substitution is irreversible.
