The data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in April 2026, the national consumer price index rose by 1.2% compared to the same month last year. In urban areas, prices increased by 1.2%, while in rural areas, prices increased by 1.0%. Food prices fell by 1.6%, while non-food prices rose by 1.8%. Consumer goods prices rose by 1.4%, and service prices rose by 0.9%. On average from January to April, the national consumer price index increased by 0.9% compared to the same period last year.
In April, the national consumer price index increased by 0.3% compared to March. In urban areas, prices rose by 0.3%, while in rural areas, prices rose by 0.1%. Food prices fell by 1.6%, while non-food prices rose by 0.7%. Consumer goods prices increased by 0.1%, and service prices rose by 0.5%.
1. Changes in various commodity and service prices compared to the same period last year
In April, the price of food, tobacco, and dining out decreased by 0.8% compared to the same period last year, which affected the consumer price index (CPI) to decrease by about 0.24 percentage points. Among food items, the price of livestock meat decreased by 6.7%, with pork prices dropping by 15.2%. The price of fresh fruits decreased by 1.0%, while fresh vegetables decreased by 0.5%. Seafood prices increased by 1.3%.
The prices of other seven categories increased by various percentages. Prices in categories such as other goods and services, transportation and communication, and healthcare increased by 11.0%, 4.6%, and 2.2% respectively. Prices in categories such as clothing, daily necessities and services, and education, culture, and entertainment all saw increases as well, while housing prices decreased by 0.2%.
2. Changes in various commodity and service prices compared to the previous month
In April, the price of food, tobacco, and dining out decreased by 1.0% compared to the previous month, affecting the CPI to decrease by about 0.28 percentage points. Prices of fresh vegetables decreased by 6.4%, while prices of livestock meat decreased by 2.7%. The price of pork decreased by 5.7%. Price of fresh fruits and seafood also decreased, while the price of eggs increased.
The prices of other seven categories saw three increases, one stabilization, and three decreases compared to the previous month. Prices in categories such as transportation and communication, education, culture and entertainment, and healthcare saw increases, while prices in categories such as other goods and services, clothing, and housing decreased.
