Data shows that the total delivery volume of Model 3 and Model Y produced at Tesla's Shanghai factory (including the share exported to Europe and other markets) is 79,478 units.
Data released by the China Passenger Car Association on Thursday shows that Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) saw a significant 36% year-on-year increase in electric vehicle sales in China in April, marking the sixth consecutive month of growth. The data indicates that a total of 79,478 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced at Tesla, Inc.'s Shanghai factory were delivered (including exports to Europe and other markets). These figures suggest that after a period of painful market share loss, Tesla, Inc. is starting to stabilize in its two most important markets outside the United States. However, delays in regulatory approval for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and the emergence of new models from Chinese electric vehicle brands could limit its recovery momentum. Last month, Tesla, Inc. saw sales continue to rebound in several European markets including Sweden, France, and Denmark. This was mainly driven by the surge in oil prices due to the US-Iran conflict, boosting strong demand for electric vehicles in the market. Regulatory Barriers Tesla, Inc. is facing regulatory barriers, as the approval process for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, highly valued by customers (especially in China), remains unclear. Tesla, Inc.'s Chief Financial Officer Zachary Kirkhorn stated in April that the company currently expects to receive full approval for FSD in China in the third quarter, which is a delay from the initial target set for the first quarter. Some European regulatory agencies have shown skepticism towards this technology. Prior to this recovery, Tesla, Inc. went through a difficult period, losing nearly half of its market share in Europe by 2025. Nevertheless, Tesla, Inc. is gearing up to withstand the impact of new Chinese models, including developing a more affordable compact SUV produced in China.
