Operating Situation of Internet and Related Services Industry in the First Quarter of 2026
In the first quarter, internet business revenue maintained steady growth, total profit increased at a faster pace, R&D expenditure maintained a relatively fast growth momentum, and some regions performed well.
I. Overall Operating Situation
Internet business revenue maintained steady growth. In the first quarter, China's internet and related service enterprises above a certain scale (referred to as internet enterprises below) achieved internet business revenue of 502.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.
Total profit increased at a faster pace. In the first quarter, internet enterprises above a certain scale in China achieved a total profit of 55.84 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 60.5%.
R&D expenditure maintained a relatively fast growth momentum. In the first quarter, internet enterprises above a certain scale in China invested a total of 27.32 billion yuan in R&D expenditure, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%.
II. Regional Operating Situation
In the first quarter, internet business revenue in the eastern region, central region, western region, and northeastern region increased by 11.1%, -10.6%, 13.5%, and -24.6% respectively compared to the same period last year. The eastern region accounted for 90.7% of the total internet business revenue in the country. Internet business revenue in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region increased by 14.8% year-on-year, while in the Yangtze River Delta region, it increased by 5.6%. These two regions accounted for 33.3% and 29.4% of the total internet business revenue in the country, respectively. There were 16 provinces, regions, or cities in the country that achieved positive growth in internet business revenue, with Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Guizhou ranking in the top five in terms of internet business revenue.
