According to informed sources, the artificial intelligence startup company Anthropic has reportedly committed to paying 200 billion dollars to Google Cloud over the next five years as per a recently reached agreement.
According to informed sources, the artificial intelligence startup company Anthropic has agreed to pay Alphabet Inc. Class C Cloud (Google Cloud) $200 billion over the next five years based on a recent agreement. This commitment means that the AI startup company accounts for more than 40% of the revenue backlog disclosed by Alphabet Inc. Class C to investors last week (i.e. contract commitments from cloud customers). As a result of this news, Alphabet Inc. Class C's parent company, Alphabet, saw its stock price rise by about 2% after hours on Tuesday. In April of this year, Anthropic signed an agreement with Alphabet Inc. Class C and Alphabet Inc. Class C's chip partner, Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US), to lock in several gigawatts (GW) of Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) computational capacity, expected to go live starting in 2027. At the same time, Alphabet will invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic to deepen its partnership with this AI startup company, both of which are also competitors in the global AI race. In April, Alphabet Inc. Class C pledged to invest $10 billion in Anthropic at a valuation of $350 billion, a valuation level consistent with the valuation at the funding round in February of this year. If the startup achieves certain performance targets, Alphabet Inc. Class C plans to invest an additional $30 billion. Amazon.com, Inc. is also investing $5 billion in Anthropic at a valuation of $350 billion, with plans to invest an additional $20 billion over time. It is currently unclear whether these two companies will participate in the upcoming funding round. Currently, contracts related to Anthropic and OpenAI account for more than half of the $2 trillion backlog orders from major cloud providers such as Amazon.com, Inc. AWS, Microsoft Corporation Azure, and Alphabet Inc. Class C. Due to strong demand for its Claude series AI models, Anthropic has signed several major agreements to acquire more computing power. Last month, Anthropic reached a multi-year partnership with cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave (CRWV.US) and plans to obtain nearly 1 gigawatt of computational capacity through Amazon.com, Inc.'s chips by the end of the year. Anthropic has previously stated that the AI hardware used for training and running the Claude model includes Amazon.com, Inc.'s Trainium, Alphabet Inc. Class C's TPU, and NVIDIA Corporation's GPU. Meanwhile, with the expansion of its AI and cloud business, Alphabet's stock price has continued to hit historic highs, potentially surpassing NVIDIA Corporation to become the world's most valuable company. Last month, sources revealed that Anthropic has begun considering a new round of financing that could value the AI developer at over $900 billion. This could surpass long-time rival OpenAI, making it the world's highest valued AI startup company. Anthropic had previously rejected several funding proposals from investors, which valued the company at $800 billion or higher. These developments come as Anthropic expands its financing scale due to the groundbreaking success of its AI software. Market reports suggest that Anthropic is considering an IPO as early as October, and has been searching for more infrastructure to meet the growing demand for its products.
