From January to March 2026, the world's car sales reached 22.4 million units, with new energy vehicles reaching 4.53 million units.
On May 3, Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association, pointed out in a post that due to the significant increase in overseas sales of vehicles by Shanxi Guoxin Energy Corporation, and weaker domestic sales, Shanxi Guoxin Energy Corporation's global market share in passenger cars will be 68.3% in 2025, but will drop to 61% in the first quarter of 2026. In the global market for pure electric vehicles, China's market share is relatively stable, reaching around 63% from 2023 to 2025. However, in 2026, China's share in the global market for pure electric vehicles drops to 56%, mainly due to poor performance in the first quarter. China is leading in the global market for plug-in hybrid vehicles, with a market share reaching 76.4% in 2025 and 73% in 2026, showing strong performance. In the first quarter of 2026, global vehicle sales reached 22.4 million units, with new energy vehicles reaching 4.53 million units, accounting for 20.2% of the market. Among these, pure electric vehicles accounted for 13.8%, plug-in hybrids accounted for 6.4%, and hybrid vehicles accounted for 7.2%. Due to factors such as high tariffs and the cancellation of new energy vehicle subsidies, sales of American vehicles in March 2026 decreased by 32% compared to the same period last year. In the first quarter of 2026, American vehicle sales decreased by 31%. In Europe, sales of new energy passenger cars in March decreased by 5%, but increased by 10% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. China's export of domestic new energy vehicles has shown good performance, leading to a significant increase in market share. In 2025, the market share of China's domestic new energy vehicles reached 15.8%, and by 2026, it had reached 22%, a substantial increase.
