UBS initiates coverage on artificial intelligence networking supplier Astera Labs for the first time, giving it a "neutral" rating with a target price of $180.
Boosted by the news of signing a $100 billion deal with its main customer Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) and Anthropic, Astera Labs (ALAB.US) saw its stock price rise by 9.2% to $191.97 on Tuesday. UBS Group AG initiated coverage on this artificial intelligence networking supplier for the first time, giving it a "neutral" rating with a target price of $180. The UBS Group AG analyst team (led by Natalia Winkler) stated in an investor report, "Since launching its retime product in 2019, Astera Labs has successfully defended its market share with Amazon.com, Inc. and taken measures to expand the application of its products in other hyperscale data centers, showcasing its product quality and execution. Based on our bottom-up retime sales forecasts and discussions with experts, we are optimistic about Astera Labs' growth prospects for the next 2-3 years, with revenue expected to exceed market expectations by 4% in 2027, driven mainly by retime and its scalable PCIe/UA Link switching product portfolio." However, Astera Labs' entry into the increasingly competitive switch market and its high valuation led UBS Group AG to give it a "neutral" rating. Winkler stated, "The next phase - entering the PCIe switch market (starting in the second quarter of 2025) - brings significantly higher competition risk. While the PCIe switch market is about four times the size of the retime market, it also includes strong existing players such as Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US) and Microchip Technology Incorporated (MCHP.US), which hold over 50% market share, as well as new entrants like Marvell Technology, Inc. (MRVL.US). We predict that by the end of this decade, Astera Labs will reach a market share of around 25% (currently less than 5%), but it will need to effectively deal with competition."
