US President Trump said in an interview with the media on the South Lawn of the White House on the 16th that the US may have another round of face-to-face negotiations with Iran this weekend, and if the US and Iran reach a peace agreement, he will consider going to Pakistan to sign it.
Trump said he hoped not to extend the two-week temporary ceasefire agreement with Iran and to reach a permanent peace agreement before it expires.
"We are very close to reaching an agreement," Trump said. If the negotiations ultimately succeed, he will announce it soon and said that the peace agreement will bring "free oil and access to the Strait of Hormuz" to the US.
He reiterated that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons and said that Iran has agreed to hand over its enriched uranium.
Trump also said that if the US-Iran peace agreement is signed in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, he may go to Islamabad.
Earlier that day, Trump announced through social media that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire. Trump said in an interview that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Lebanese President Aoun are likely to hold a meeting at the White House "in the next one or two weeks."
