Chen Meibao: In April, Hong Kong will launch an integrated "call taxi" platform, considering the unique characteristics of Hong Kong when considering the number of online taxi licenses.
Chen Meibao expressed that the taxi fleet's service performance has always been closely monitored and reviewed, hoping to meet the government's recommended standards. She also mentioned that a taxi integration platform will be launched in April, aiming to further enhance convenience and diversify the taxi fleet's business, while also improving the citizens' experience.
At a special meeting of the Legislative Council Finance Committee, several members expressed concern about the operation of the taxi fleet and the number of licenses for ride-hailing services. Hong Kong Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Chen Meibao, stated that there has been close monitoring and review of the performance of the taxi fleet, hoping to achieve the government's proposed scale. She also mentioned that a ride-hailing integrated platform will be launched in April to further enhance convenience and diversify the business of taxi fleets, while improving the experience of citizens.
Chen Meibao pointed out that when considering the number of licenses for ride-hailing services, the government has referred to the experiences of different cities. However, Hong Kong has its own uniqueness, as the public transportation system is very developed and 90% of citizens use public transportation for travel. It is also necessary to consider the capacity of the road system when setting the licensing numbers, taking into account various factors and striking a balance. She emphasized that the authorities will conduct internal assessments, collect data, and listen to the opinions of all stakeholders, including the taxi industry.
