Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) is testing four designs for its smart AI glasses to compete with Meta (META.US) products, and plans to launch some or all of the designs to the market.
The four styles being tested include: large rectangular frames similar to Ray-Ban Wayfarer; slim rectangular design similar to the glasses worn by Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook; larger oval or round frames; and smaller, delicate oval or round styles.
Apple Inc. aims to surpass competitors by deeply integrating the glasses with the iPhone and providing a higher-end manufacturing process.
It is reported that Apple Inc. is considering using vertically-oriented oval lenses for the glasses' camera system, paired with surround lighting, which differs from Meta's circular lens design.
Apple Inc. plans to release this AI glasses, code-named N50, by the end of 2026 or early 2027, with a target market release in 2027.
The latest prototype is made from acetate fiber material, which is more durable than the common plastic used by many brands. Apple Inc. is also exploring various surface treatment processes, including black, navy blue, and light brown color combinations.
Financial journalist Mark Gurman stated, "If executed properly, and with the help of a well-functioning Siri, this glasses could replicate the development trajectory of the Apple Watch - not the first to market, but eventually dominating."
