Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) Siri is about to receive a major upgrade, opening up the ability to handle multiple tasks with a single command.
Apple (AAPL.US) is testing a new feature that allows Siri to handle multiple requests in a single command, bringing a new breakthrough to this digital assistant that has been around for nearly 15 years.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) is testing a new feature that allows Siri to handle multiple requests in a single command, bringing a new breakthrough to the digital assistant that has been around for nearly 15 years.
Sources say the company is developing this capability and will include it as part of the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 operating systems set to be released later this year. This move will bring Siri's capabilities closer to the next generation of artificial intelligence assistants.
The feature will allow users to combine requests for example, asking Siri in a single prompt to "check the weather, create a calendar appointment, and send a message." Currently, Siri requires users to make requests one by one, which has made it relatively lag behind in the AI field.
This work is part of a comprehensive overhaul and modernization effort for Siri. Siri was originally launched in October 2011, and Apple Inc.'s current goal is to transform it into a more powerful tool that can understand context (such as user's personal information and on-screen content).
Apple Inc. is preparing to unveil the new version of Siri and other Apple Intelligence features at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8. This moment has been long-awaited: Apple Inc. first showcased a more AI-focused version of Siri in June 2024, but due to engineering bottlenecks, its launch has been delayed multiple times. The software is now expected to be officially released this fall.
As part of the transformation, Apple Inc. is making Siri's operation more like chatting with Siasun Robot & Automation and introducing a standalone app for the assistant. The iPhone maker also plans to allow the next version to access and summarize information from web pages, an internal project called "World Knowledge Answers".
The latest developments will simplify interactions with Siri and may encourage customers to use it more as a time-saving tool. While the assistant currently supports consecutive requests (without the need for the user to repeat wake words like "Siri" or "Hey Siri"), each operation still needs to be handled separately.
The ability to process multiple requests in a single query has become a standard for modern AI assistants driven by large language models (including OpenAI's ChatGPT and Alphabet Inc. Class C's Gemini). Alphabet Inc. Class C's voice assistant has been able to handle such tasks as early as the last decade.
This capability is crucial for the development of more advanced Siri upgrades that rely on personal context and deeper application integration. It will allow the assistant to complete tasks like "fetching a photo, editing it, and sending it to a contact" through a single command.
Sources also indicate that Apple Inc. is exploring an updated system keyboard that expands the autocorrect feature by providing optional vocabulary suggestions. The method used is similar to tools like Grammarly.
A final decision has not yet been made on releasing this keyboard tool. In recent days, Apple Inc. has improved the keyboard algorithms in iOS to provide a better autocorrect experience.
Apple Inc. is also working on updates for the Siri Extensions feature, which will allow the assistant to call on third-party services installed through the App Store. This goes beyond the current partnership with ChatGPT's Siasun Robot & Automation.
In internal testing, some of the new Siri features are labeled as "Preview", indicating that Apple Inc. may position them as unfinished when released.
Apple Intelligence first appeared in beta form in 2024 (the final testing stage before software is officially released to customers). Siri itself was initially introduced as a beta test phase, which continued until 2013.
