OpenAI announced the completion of a new record-breaking round of financing, with a valuation of up to $85.2 billion.
The total amount of financing in this round of OpenAI has reached 12.2 billion US dollars.
Amid the ongoing global AI boom, OpenAI announced the completion of a new record-breaking round of financing, with a valuation as high as $852 billion, further consolidating its leading position in the AI industry.
The total size of this round of financing reached $122 billion, higher than the $110 billion commitment funds disclosed by the company in February of this year. SoftBank led the investment, with participation from institutions such as Andreessen Horowitz and D. E. Shaw Ventures. Previously, strategic investors such as Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US), NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US), and SoftBank had already committed substantial funding.
Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, OpenAI has rapidly become one of the fastest-growing commercial companies globally. As of March of this year, ChatGPT had over 900 million weekly active users, with over 50 million subscribers.
The company stated that artificial intelligence is significantly improving productivity, accelerating research progress, and expanding the boundaries of capabilities for both businesses and individuals, and this round of financing will provide crucial support for further scaling.
However, with the soaring valuation, the market is also placing higher demands on its profitability. OpenAI CEO Otman is facing pressure to prove the reasonableness of the company's valuation, especially as potential IPO plans move forward. In recent years, the company has begun scaling back some high-investment projects and closing some products to control costs.
Financially, OpenAI currently has a monthly revenue of around $2 billion, with an annual revenue of $13.1 billion last year, but the company is still in a loss-making state and has not achieved profitability.
In terms of financing structure, the additional $12 billion in funding comes from a broader group of investors, including investors participating for the first time through bank channels, as well as around $3 billion in individual investor funds. In addition, long-term partner Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) also participated in this round of financing, although the specific investment size was not disclosed.
OpenAI stated that this capital will be used to build "intelligent infrastructure," and believes that its long-term value will gradually flow back to enterprises, communities, and individuals.
