AT&T(T.US) launches "one-stop" service to attract customers. New packages bundle wireless and home internet.
AT&T has launched a new "OneConnect" package, bundling together wireless network and home internet services.
AT&T (T.US) launched a new wireless phone and home internet service bundle on Tuesday, starting at $90 per month, including one mobile phone line, gigabit home internet, and up to three connected devices. The unified package, AT&T OneConnect, can provide unlimited connections for multiple devices (including smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices) under the same account.
Based in Dallas, the company introduced this new package modeled after other consumer products, offering a single bill and limiting extra fees, calling it the "industry's first unlimited connected single subscription." AT&T's Executive Vice President of Mass Market Jennifer Robertson said in an interview, "We think of this more like the way people purchase Netflix or Peloton fitness equipment. You don't pay Netflix each time you buy a TV."
Robertson stated that AT&T will continue to sell its "bundle" package, which includes home internet and wireless phone services, with individual basic service prices ranging from $105 to $120. She also mentioned that the company found that 60% of customers considering the bundled service ultimately chose to give up due to its complexity.
OneConnect differs from previous package plans in that, in the previous plans, customers needed to pay extra to add phone numbers or connected devices, such as tablets or smartwatches. OneConnect includes all of these services.
The company stated that the new plan was launched in response to customer feedback, as customers were frustrated with paying separate bills for home internet and wireless services.
The two-person package is priced at $120, allowing for 2 members, 2 voice lines, up to 6 data devices, and a home internet device. The family package at $225 per month allows for unlimited members, up to 10 voice lines, up to 10 data devices, and a home internet device.
With various carriers increasing their offers to consumers, this new plan will give AT&T a more competitive edge. As the smallest of the three major carriers, AT&T had previously launched a trade-in program where eligible customers could receive a free iPhone 17 Pro.
Verizon (VZ.US), with the largest user base in the industry, also offers promotions for a free iPhone 17 Pro and internet packages that include a free Samsung TV. The second-largest carrier, T-Mobile US (TMUS.US), is running promotions for new users, offering a range of free phones and other perks such as Netflix subscriptions and Wingstop chicken wings.
