On March 20, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters regarding the comments made by high-ranking officials from the Mexican Ministry of Economy. The spokesperson stated that China has taken note of the relevant remarks made by the Mexican Ministry of Economy officials. China has always been opposed to all forms of unilateralism and protectionist measures, as well as the politicizing, weaponizing, and tooling of economic and trade issues. China has repeatedly urged Mexico to correct its erroneous practice of unilateral tariff increases, and expresses serious concerns over Mexico's consideration of conducting so-called "economic security reviews" on Chinese investments. The Ministry of Commerce initiated a trade and investment barrier investigation into relevant restrictions involving China by Mexico on September 25, 2025, and will soon announce the final conclusion of the investigation and take corresponding measures in a timely manner to vigorously safeguard China's legitimate rights and interests. Respecting each other and achieving mutual benefits is a valuable experience for the development of China-Mexico economic and trade relations. The normal development of bilateral economic and trade relations requires both sides to work together. China is willing to strengthen communication and exchanges with Mexico, properly manage differences, and jointly maintain the overall situation of bilateral economic and trade relations. It is hoped that Mexico will rationally, objectively, and comprehensively view economic and trade cooperation with China, respect market rules and the principles of fair competition, and provide an open, fair, and predictable environment for enterprises from various countries, including Chinese enterprises.
