National Bureau of Statistics: The total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 2.8% in January and February 2026.
In January and February, the total retail sales of consumer goods in society were 8,607.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the total retail sales of consumer goods in China in January and February were 8.6079 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.8% year-on-year. Excluding automobiles, the retail sales of consumer goods totaled 7.9827 trillion yuan, up 3.7%.
By location, urban retail sales of consumer goods in January and February were 7.4449 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%, while rural retail sales of consumer goods were 1.163 trillion yuan, up 3.2%.
By consumption type, in January and February, the retail sales of goods were 7.5815 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%, while catering revenue reached 1.0264 trillion yuan, up 4.8%.
By retail format, in January and February, among the retail businesses above the designated size, the retail sales of convenience stores, supermarkets, department stores, and specialty stores increased by 6.4%, 4.9%, 1.0%, and 0.2% respectively, while the retail sales of brand stores decreased by 2.3%.
In January and February, the national online retail sales of goods and services reached 3.2546 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.2% year-on-year. Of this, online retail sales of goods were 2.0812 trillion yuan, up 10.3%, accounting for 24.2% of the total retail sales of consumer goods; within online retail sales of goods, food, clothing, and daily necessities increased by 20.7%, 18.0%, and 4.7% respectively. Online service retail sales were 1.1734 trillion yuan, up 7.3%.
