In the fourth quarter of 2025, the Industrial Production Index of Hong Kong's overall manufacturing industry increased by 5.7% year-on-year.
After recording a year-on-year increase of 5.3% in the third quarter of 2025, the industrial production index of the overall manufacturing industry in Hong Kong saw a further increase of 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter in 2024.
On March 13th, the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department released temporary results of a statistical survey showing that the overall industrial production index of the manufacturing sector in Hong Kong increased by 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter in 2024, following a 5.3% year-on-year increase in the third quarter of 2025. The corresponding producer price index also increased by 9.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter in 2024, after a 7.7% year-on-year increase in the third quarter of 2025.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the industrial production index for sewage treatment, waste management, and pollution control activities decreased by 1.9% compared to the same quarter in 2024, following a 1.4% year-on-year decrease in the third quarter of 2025. The corresponding producer price index also increased by 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter in 2024, after a 0.3% year-on-year increase in the third quarter of 2025.
The industrial production index reflects changes in the volume of local industrial production in Hong Kong, excluding the impact of price changes.
In terms of the main industries in the manufacturing sector, industries that saw an increase in production volume in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter in 2024 included metal, computer, electronic and optical products, machinery and equipment (+6.9%), and food, beverage, and tobacco products (+3.2%). On the other hand, industries that saw a decrease in production volume included textile products and clothing (-4.7%) and paper products, printing, and media reproduction (-0.2%).
When calculated using seasonally adjusted figures, the industrial production index for the overall manufacturing sector in the fourth quarter of 2025 increased by 1.3% compared to the third quarter of 2025.
For the full year of 2025, the industrial production index for the manufacturing sector and sewage treatment, waste management, and pollution control activities increased by 3.2% and 0.1% respectively compared to 2024.
The producer price index reflects changes in local production prices, measuring the changes in the actual prices that producers receive for their output (excluding any discounts or commissions returned to buyers, and adding any additional charges), excluding transportation and other miscellaneous expenses.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, producer prices in all major industries within the manufacturing sector saw an increase compared to the same quarter in 2024. The largest increase was in the producer prices for metal, computer, electronic and optical products, machinery and equipment (+18.2%), followed by textile products and clothing (+2.3%), food, beverage, and tobacco products (+1.3%), and paper products, printing, and media reproduction (+1.3%).
For the full year of 2025, the producer price index for the manufacturing sector and sewage treatment, waste management, and pollution control activities increased by 6.5% and 0.8% respectively compared to 2024.
