The Hong Kong government announced the appointment of members of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute.
The Board of Directors of the Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Institute is composed of 14 members, with Professor Shen Xiangyang serving as the Chairman of the Board and Xian Handi as the Vice Chairman. The term of office for non-executive directors is two years, from March 13, 2026 to March 12, 2028.
On March 12, the Hong Kong government announced the appointment of members of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute Limited (AI Research Institute), marking a milestone in the development of artificial intelligence in Hong Kong. The Board of Directors of the AI Research Institute consists of 14 members, with Professor Shen Xiangyang serving as the Chairman and Mister Jim Han Tak as the Vice Chairman. The term of office for non-official directors is two years, from March 13, 2026, to March 12, 2028.
Professor Su Dong, Director of the Innovation and Technology Bureau of Hong Kong, welcomed the appointment of the AI Research Institute. He stated that the government-owned AI Research Institute aims to guide and support innovation and research in artificial intelligence in Hong Kong. The Institute is an important initiative for accelerating the development of artificial intelligence in Hong Kong, as well as aligning with the national "15th Five-Year Plan", advancing key technology breakthroughs, expanding the "AI+" action plan, and promoting the deep integration of scientific and industrial innovation.
Professor Su Dong further mentioned that the members of the Board of Directors of the AI Research Institute are experts and leaders from various backgrounds. He believes that under the leadership of the Board and Chairman Shen Xiangyang, the Institute will live up to expectations and lead the realization of its public mission to enhance Hong Kong's position in the field of artificial intelligence.
The AI Research Institute aims to promote upstream research, middle-downstream results transformation, and explore application scenarios of AI in Hong Kong. By acting as a bridge between the government, academia, research institutions, and the industry, the Institute strives to promote research application and industrial empowerment in the field of artificial intelligence. It also aims to provide recommendations to the government to promote the development of artificial intelligence, as well as strengthen societal awareness, literacy, and skills in artificial intelligence.
The members of the Board of Directors of the AI Research Institute include Professor Shen Xiangyang (Chairman), Mister Jim Han Tak (Vice Chairman), Chan Tik Yuen, Professor Kwok Yik Ho, Professor Lam Hiu Fung, Lau Lap Tung, Professor Ma Wai Ying, Professor Ma Yi, Professor Qin Sizhao, Professor Wong Kam Fai, Wong Kin Hang, Professor Yeung Hong Hsia, Permanent Secretary or his representative of the Innovation and Technology Bureau, Digital Policy Commissioner or his representative.
