YGM Retail has been the exclusive licensee of Ashworth golf and sports apparel and accessories brand in Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China, and Taiwan since 1998, until YGM Retail acquired the global intellectual property rights of the Ashworth brand for approximately HK$31.39 million in September 2019. The main business of YGM Retail is to hold and license the Ashworth IP. The group's wholesale, retail, and manufacturing operations are conducted by other subsidiaries, with YGM Marketing responsible for operations in Hong Kong and Macau.
After the completion of the sale, the group's core business (including the Ashworth brand) will focus on Hong Kong and Macau, covering garment manufacturing, wholesale, retail, sales, and marketing. According to the DML agreement, YGM Retail will grant YGM Marketing, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, a license to use the Ashworth brand without trademark license fees, on a non-exclusive basis.
