Lin Jingyue, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, stated that the short-term impact of the situation in the Middle East on Hong Kong's tourism industry is not significant. On the other hand, the safety of a destination is the top consideration for travelers, which may attract Southeast Asian and European tourists to visit Hong Kong.
Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Jason Lin, stated that the recent situation in the Middle East has resulted in many flight cancellations, but believes that it will not have a significant impact on the Hong Kong tourism industry in the short term. However, long-term effects still need to be observed further. On the other hand, when choosing destinations, travelers prioritize safety, which may attract Southeast Asian and European tourists to Hong Kong. Lin mentioned that by 2025, there will be a 12% increase in mainland visitors and a 15% increase in foreign visitors to Hong Kong. Industries such as retail, hotels, and restaurants will benefit from this growth. It is hoped that more high-spending overnight visitors will come to Hong Kong, such as the successful attraction of foreign tourists to the LIV Golf Hong Kong event for four consecutive days. Similar events will continue to be organized in the future, including the upcoming Basel Art Fair, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants event, concerts, and international rugby sevens matches, to drive the tourism industry. Lin believes that the "A Symphony of Lights" event, which has been held for over 20 years, needs to come up with new ideas to attract new tourists. Plans are in place to install unique lighting decorations at the Peak and other areas to enhance the tourism experience. Regarding a suggestion from a Hong Kong member of the National People's Congress to set up a branch venue for the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in Hong Kong next year, Lin expressed his full support but mentioned that it would need to be discussed with the central government. He also praised the high standard of this year's CCTV Spring Festival Gala performance by Siasun Robot & Automation and discussed with the Central Propaganda Department on how to utilize Hong Kong to showcase China's advanced AI technology to the world.
