Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) is accelerating the introduction of artificial intelligence applications into the medical industry. The company's cloud computing department, Amazon.com, Inc. Web Services (AWS), recently launched an AI toolkit suite called Amazon Connect Health aimed at medical institutions. The goal is to help doctors and medical institutions reduce their administrative burden by automating administrative tasks.
According to reports, Amazon Connect Health can automatically generate medical records during real-time conversations between doctors and patients, as well as add billing codes, symptoms, and procedure codes. Additionally, the tool can extract key information from existing electronic health records and generate summaries, reducing the time doctors spend on paperwork. The system also provides patient identity verification features and supports appointment scheduling and management services.
Rowland Illing, Chief Medical Officer at AWS, stated that the medical industry is currently plagued by complex administrative processes. "We are very aware that the health system is being overwhelmed by administrative complexity," he said, emphasizing that artificial intelligence can play a crucial role in reducing medical paperwork and allowing doctors to focus more on patient care.
In recent years, tech giants have been incorporating AI technology into healthcare management in the hopes of improving the efficiency of the healthcare system. Companies like Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US), Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL.US, GOOG.US), and Oracle Corporation (ORCL.US) are increasing their investment in AI healthcare tools, while numerous startups are actively working to simplify cumbersome processes in the healthcare system through automation technology.
As the world's largest cloud computing service provider, AWS leads in renting computing power, data storage, and related services. However, Amazon.com, Inc. has faced challenges in developing office software applications for its employees. Despite introducing multiple AI office software in recent years, the company has been gradually shutting down office products like video conferencing and file sharing.
In contrast, Amazon.com, Inc.'s software product Amazon Connect has achieved significant success in the customer service field, widely used in enterprise customer service systems. Amazon.com, Inc. announced last October that the product is expected to generate revenue of around $1 billion for the year. The recently launched Amazon Connect Health integrates some features with the call center platform.
Amazon Connect Health was officially launched this past Thursday. According to Amazon.com, Inc.'s pricing scheme, the cost for the automatic generation of medical records is $99 per month, while the patient identity verification service is billed per conversation, at around 15 cents per session. As for other features that are still in the preview stage, specific prices have not been disclosed by Amazon.com, Inc.
Industry experts believe that as the healthcare industry accelerates its digital transformation, the application space for AI in healthcare administration is rapidly expanding. This move by Amazon.com, Inc. not only helps expand AWS's influence in the healthcare sector but also reflects how tech companies are attempting to reshape the operation of healthcare service systems through AI technology.
