Gao Yi, Danshuiquan and other private equity funds totaling billions frequently conduct research, which industries and stocks are researched more frequently?
The data from PPRadar website shows that in February, a total of 383 private equity institutions visited A-share listed companies, covering 158 individual stocks in 22 Shenwan industry classifications, with a total of 704 research visits.
For A-shares, February of this year was a month with a strong sense of rhythm: in the first half of the month approaching the Spring Festival, the market sentiment was cautious and defensive; after the holiday, trading resumed and the market quickly switched to a state of seeking direction. Although the number of effective trading days was compressed, the pace of research by private institutions did not slow down, but instead continued before and after the holiday.
Data from the Private Placement Network showed that in February, a total of 383 private institutions visited A-share listed companies, covering 158 individual stocks in 22 Shenwan first-level industries, with a total of 704 research visits. Among them, 34 billion-dollar private institutions conducted a total of 128 research visits. Among the 26 institutions that conducted research at least 5 times in that month, 14 were billion-dollar private institutions, with the presence of top institutions throughout the month.
In terms of stock performance, stocks researched by private institutions in February performed significantly better than the broader market, with an average price increase of 6.94% for the month, significantly outperforming major indices during the same period. 48 individual stocks had monthly increases of over 10%, with 20 of them exceeding 20%; stocks such as Science Environmental Protection, Omat Advanced Materials, Jiangsu Jujie Microfiber Technology Group, Hangzhou Hirisun Technology Incorporated had particularly outstanding performances.
In terms of industry distribution, the main focus of private research in February was on industries such as power equipment, machinery equipment, computers, electronics, and biotechnology. Biotech innovation, power equipment, and the mainstream of the digital economy intersected in the list of individual stocks; on the side of the research subjects, institutions such as Zhengyuan Investment, Gaoyi Asset Management, Danshui Springs, Dunhe Asset Management, Ning Quan Asset Management, and Xingshi Investment appeared frequently, and many billion-dollar private institutions formed a consensus on strong stocks like Science Environmental Protection, BEONE MEDICINES, Titan Wind Energy, and Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology.
Power equipment, biotechnology, and technology are the focus of private research
At the individual stock level, there were a total of 39 stocks that were researched by private institutions at least 5 times in February, forming a high-frequency watchlist within the sample. Among them, the biotech industry's BEONE MEDICINES was the most prominent, being researched 39 times in that month, attracting 12 billion-dollar private institutions including Danshui Springs, Jinglin Asset Management, Gaoyi Asset Management, and Zhongyang Investment. The focus of the research and exchange mainly centered around the progress of the new drug pipeline, overseas commercialization progress, and expense allocation.
In the same biotech sector, MGI Tech Co., Ltd. was researched 25 times in February, with participation mainly from small and medium-sized private institutions, focusing on the productization path of omics business, technological upgrades, and overseas expansion arrangements. Unlike BEONE MEDICINES, which had the backing of multiple billion-dollar institutions, more small and medium-sized private institutions were seeking answers to the question of whether the "technological maturity and commercialization process are matched" in companies like MGI Tech Co., Ltd.
In addition to biotech, the computer, machinery equipment, and electronic sectors also had two individual stocks each within the top ten research counts. In the computer sector, State Power Rixin Technology was researched 32 times in a single month, while Wondershare Technology Group was researched 17 times, with the former mainly focusing on energy Internet and power system informatization solutions, and the latter addressing product strategies and overseas market planning for consumer software businesses. In the machinery equipment sector, Naipu Mining Machinery and Nanchang Mineral Systems received 25 and 19 research visits, respectively, involving areas such as mining equipment and high-end manufacturing.
In the electronic sector, Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology and Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai) Co. made it to the top ten, with research questions focusing on domestic substitution of passive components, changes in customer structure, and the business outlook for the electronics manufacturing sector.
Taking a broader industry view, there were 13 Shenwan first-level industries that were researched by private institutions at least 10 times in February, with 8 of them being researched over 50 times. The power equipment industry was one of the most attention-grabbing sectors that month, with a total of 14 individual stocks included in the research list, totaling 97 research visits. Companies like Titan Wind Energy, Huaming Power Equipment, Dajin Heavy Industry, Hebei Huatong Wires & Cables Group were all researched at least 10 times.
Similarly, the machinery equipment industry received a high level of attention, with a total of 23 individual stocks researched in February, totaling 94 research visits. Companies like Naipu Mining Machinery, Nanchang Mineral Systems, and Zhuzhou Huarui Precision Cutting Tools Co., Ltd were among those included.
In the computer industry, there were 93 research visits by private institutions in February, covering 9 individual stocks. State Power Rixin Technology, Wondershare Technology Group, and Streamax Technology were the most researched companies in that sector, with Hangzhou Hirisun Technology Incorporated and Streamax Technology showing relatively strong performances in terms of stock price, with increases exceeding 30% that month.
In the electronic industry, there were 79 research visits in February, ranking high in terms of research frequency, with 25 individual stocks being researched, making it the industry with the broadest coverage. Companies like Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology, Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai) Co., Omat Advanced Materials, Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai), Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology, and TDG Holding all saw stock price increases of over 20% in February, covering upstream materials and midstream manufacturing segments.
In addition to the high-frequency sectors mentioned above, the basic chemical industry and the automotive sector also received a significant amount of research in February. In the basic chemical industry, 15 individual stocks were researched, with a total of 52 research visits, involving various subfields such as Longyan Zhuoyue New Energy, Boai NKY Medical, Jiangsu Baichuan High-Tech New Materials, Zhejiang Fulai New Material, Guilin Layn Natural Ingredients Corp, and Zhejiang Runtu.
The automotive sector had 12 individual stocks researched, totaling 52 research visits, with companies like Zhejiang Sling Intelligent Drive Group, Chuzhou Duoli Automotive Technology, Hangzhou XZB Tech, Zhejiang Yinlun Machinery, Chongqing Changan Automobile, Sailun Group, and Sinotruk Jinan Truck all on the list. Although sectors like defense industry, media, and environmental protection had slightly fewer overall research visits, individual stocks like Avic Xi'An Aircraft Industry Group, Guanglian Aviation Industry, Ronshin Group, Hangzhou Shunwang Technology, and Science Environmental Protection also received focused attention from institutions.
Billion-dollar private institutions were active in February
In terms of institutions, there were a total of 26 private placement institutions that conducted research at least 5 times in February, with 14 of them being billion-dollar private institutions, whose research behaviors had a significant impact on the overall data.
The institution with the highest number of research visits was Zhengyuan Investment, with a total of 21 research visits in February, covering multiple directions such as computers, machinery equipment, defense industry, and consumption. In the computer industry, Zhengyuan Investment focused on the research of companies like State Power Rixin Technology, Streamax Technology, Ninestar Corporation, ArcSoft Corporation, and SDIC Intelligence Information Technology.
Among the billion-dollar private institutions, Gaoyi Asset Management's research frequency was relatively high, with a total of 11 research visits in February, mainly focusing on industries such as machinery equipment and power equipment. In the machinery sector, Gaoyi Asset Management visited companies like Naipu Mining Machinery, Nanchang Mineral Systems, Zhuzhou Huarui Precision Cutting Tools Co., Ltd, and Farsoon Technologies; in addition, they also researched companies like Avic Xi'An Aircraft Industry Group, Hbis Resources, Haian Rubber Group, Zhejiang Sling Intelligent Drive Group, Huaming Power Equipment, BEONE MEDICINES. Stocks like Zhuzhou Huarui Precision Cutting Tools Co., Ltd and Farsoon Technologies saw price increases of over 20% in February.
Danshui Springs conducted research in a more cross-industry manner, with research covering multiple industries such as biotech, electronics, power equipment, and automotive. In the biotech sector, they focused on Maiv Bio-Tech and Zejing Pharmaceutical, in the electronics sector, they researched Shenyang Fortune Precision Equipment, and in the power equipment and automotive sectors, they paid attention to companies like Titan Wind Energy, Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology, Shenzhen Kedali Industry, Zhejiang Yinlun Machinery. Companies like Titan Wind Energy and Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology saw stock price increases of over 20% in February, as these types of stocks often combine industry prosperity and the company's own growth potential.
Dunhe Asset Management adopted a more diversified research approach. Their February research targets included Science Environmental Protection, Zhejiang Runtu, Titan Wind Energy, Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology, ZheJiang Haers Vacuum Containers, Zhejiang Hangmin, and BEONE MEDICINES, covering 7 Shenwan first-level industries. Looking at the stock price data, Science Environmental Protection saw close to a doubling of its price in February, while companies like Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology and Titan Wind Energy also showed impressive performances.
Jinglin Asset Management conducted 4 research visits in February, covering companies like BEONE MEDICINES, Wondershare Technology Group, Dajin Heavy Industry, and Science Environmental Protection. Among these, Science Environmental Protection had a price increase of over 90% in February, making it one of the most outstanding research targets for that month, while Wondershare Technology Group maintained a certain level of interest in the computer sector.
Ningbo Huanfang Quantitative appeared in the research lists of both Science Environmental Protection and Hbis Resources. The former is a stock with a prominent growth style, while the latter is in the steel industry, reflecting the diversity in the selection of research targets by quantitative institutions.
Dongfang Port focused its research on Guangxi Huaxi Nonferrous Metal in the non-ferrous metal industry. The stock saw a price increase of over 10% in February, but the number of research institutions was not high, suggesting that some institutions believe that such targets are more suitable for long-term tracking.
In addition to the institutions mentioned above, Tongyuan Investment, Heyuan Fund, Mingyu Asset Management, Shanghai Shibei Nengxin Private Equity, Hongshang Asset Management, Juming Investment, Ningquan Asset Management, Xingshi Investment, Qianhai Yiwu Asset Management, and others also maintained a high frequency of research in February.
Among them, Tongyuan Investment focused on companies like Wondershare Technology Group, Leysen Jewellery Inc., Yantai Jereh Oilfield Services Group, and Science Environmental Protection, covering areas such as computers, consumption, and energy services; Heyuan Fund conducted research on companies like Hangzhou XZB Tech, Streamax Technology, Weichai Heavy Machinery, and BMC Medical, covering machinery equipment, consumption, and healthcare; Mingyu Asset Management included companies like Hangzhou Shunwang Technology, Leo Group Co., Ltd., Titan Wind Energy, Ronshin Group, BEONE MEDICINES in the research list, with involvement in media, power equipment, and biotechnology sectors.
